Girls in Montgomery County participated in day camp at Billy Dunlop Park hosted by Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee. The camp theme is Forever Green which aims at teaching girls the importance of taking care of the environment.
Girls created crafts out of recyclable materials and learning how to incorporate scrap paper and leftover items into their crafts. Even the snacks provided for the girls are environmentally friendly, being locally grown and purchased from local farmer’s markets. Girls also practiced outdoor skills including pitching a tent.
The day camp theme of Forever Green is a part of the national Girl Scouts campaign as Girl Scouts celebrates its 100th birthday in 2012. Through day camp as well as numerous Girl Scout programs and activities, girls are taught to sow seeds of environmental stewardship.
